Mafia is a picture-perfect tropical paradise with palm palms encircling its white sand beaches. Mafia Island’s surrounding waters are perfect for snorkeling and diving since they are clear and teeming with marine life. Numerous species can be found in the marine park, such as the whale shark, the largest fish on the globe with a maximum length of 15 meters.
Day 1: Dar es Salaam to Mafia Island
Arrive at Dar es Salaam by no later than 13:00 in order to board the Mafia Island internal aircraft. We can arrange for you to stay an additional night in a 5* hotel in Dar es Salaam, including all the required transfers, should your aircraft arrive later.
Mafia Island is a half-hour trip away in a tiny aircraft. Transfer to the lodge or hotel from the Mafia Island Airport. For the remainder of the day, enjoy your lodge and the beach.
Day 2: Miewe Island and Marimbani Sandbank
We’re going to keep you out all day. We leave for a boat ride to Miewe Island and Darusi Reef after breakfast. picnicking and snorkeling on the island. With the Coral Gardens, Mafia Island Marine Park is a snorkeler’s dream come true.
You will take a boat excursion to Marimbani Sandbank for swimming and sunbathing during the second half of the day.
Day 3: Specialities of Mafia Island: Whale Sharks or Turtle Hatching
This trip lasts for the entire day. Our guide keeps up with the most recent information on the sharks’ whereabouts. You unwind with a picnic lunch and refreshments on a sandbank following your snorkeling experience with these amazing creatures. Although common, seeing whale sharks in the wild is not guaranteed. The day after tomorrow, we’ll give you another chance if you weren’t fortunate enough to see even one whale shark today!
Day 4: Mafia Island – cultural and water activities
Explore the area and ask questions about day-to-day life while on a guided walk through Utende village.
Discover the mangrove passageways and woodlands at your own speed by jumping on a SUP board. They will give you the paddles at the beach. Take pleasure in the pool, the beach, and your lodge.
Day 5: Whale Sharks or alternative ocean or island excursions
This is your opportunity if you weren’t fortunate enough to see whale sharks the day before yesterday! We try again to see these kinds of giants and go snorkeling with them.
If you had a good experience snorkeling with whale sharks on your first visit, we recommend one of the following boat or vehicle journeys to Mafia Island to go deeper:
– One-person scuba diving
– Boat excursion: Historic tour of the Kua ruins, Kua channel, and Blue Lagoon
– Take a Land Rover excursion to see several areas of Mafia Island, including its abandoned beaches and settlements.
Day 6: Mafia Island – Dar es Salaam
Enjoy the beach, the resort, and the swimming pool in the morning. Alternatively, hop back on a SUP board and take your time exploring the mangrove alleyways and woodlands.
We will arrange for you to be transferred to Mafia Airport, where you will board your afternoon flight to Dar es Salaam, following an early lunch.
Your next flight can be connected at the airport in Dar es Salaam if it leaves late at night (after 20:00). If not, we can book you an additional night at a hotel in Dar es Salaam and transport you to the airport the following day.
